In the world of Fly Fishing knots, you will not learn this one in any fly fishing class.
The success of any fishing technique is heavily dependent on the perfect knowledge of the knots used. So you should know their tying procedures like the back of your hand. Also, since saltwater and freshwater have different densities choose your techniques wisely to cater to different situations.
A team of scientists working in a lab will not be able to recreate this in a year.
Some knots make it into the calendar.
This kind of thing happens while casting sometimes…somehow. But at this point in the season in October, it does not contribute to your guide’s mental health.
There was a t-shirt circulating the fly shops many years ago – “Always Check Your Fly”, or something to that effect, a little tongue-in-cheek reference to paying attention to the current state of your fly at the end of your line.
I’m going to recommend staying in tune with what’s going on with your fly line as well. Continually casting with this kind of “interruption” in your line is not going to lead to success while fly fishing most of the time.
